Samsung’s Bixby: Introducing AI-Generated Voice for Call Responses

Samsung has unveiled a novel feature for its Bixby mobile assistant, empowering it to create an AI-generated replica of a user’s voice to handle phone calls. Termed the ‘Custom Voice Creator,’ this fresh functionality enables users to record various phrases for Bixby’s evaluation, resulting in an AI-generated simulation of their speech pattern and voice tone. However, it’s worth noting that this feature is exclusively accessible on the Galaxy S23 series and is currently limited to the Korean language.
Context and Functionality
Contrary to cloning a user’s voice, this new feature, known as Bixby Text Call, allows users to type a text message as a response to a phone call, especially when verbal communication may not be feasible. Bixby then converts the typed text into audio for the recipient to hear.
Users can employ this feature to leverage their AI-generated voice for addressing incoming calls during their unavailability. For example, if users are unable to attend to a phone call, they can utilize this feature to type out a response that the caller will perceive in their own voice.
Furthermore, Samsung has introduced the option for users to personalize Bixby’s wake-up phrase according to their preferences. Additionally, the voice assistant now possesses the capability to curate music based on the type of exercise logged on Samsung Health.
Enhanced Capabilities
Samsung asserts that Bixby has been upgraded to better comprehend user intent and handle subsequent requests by discerning context and relevant terms from prior interactions. For instance, users can initiate a workout session on Samsung Health and subsequently request the assistant to play suitable music for the activity by stating, ‘Play music for this workout.’
Moreover, Samsung has expanded Bixby’s offline functionalities, enabling users to perform tasks like setting a timer, capturing screenshots, or activating the flashlight, even without an internet connection.
This introduction of AI-generated voice responses for phone calls marks Samsung’s endeavor to augment the utility and personalization of its Bixby mobile assistant, catering to evolving user needs and preferences. As technological advancements continue to reshape digital interactions, Samsung remains at the forefront, integrating innovative features to enhance user experiences across its ecosystem.
