Slack, known for its revolutionary team communication app for businesses, has expanded globally with offices in major cities. The Slack Toronto Office, designed by Dubbeldam Architecture + Design, is a testament to blending heritage, productivity, and company values into a vibrant workspace.

Honoring Heritage and Culture

Situated in a former knitting and textile factory in downtown Toronto, the Slack Toronto Office spans three stories of a mid-rise brick and beam building. The design ethos seamlessly integrates the building’s industrial legacy with Slack’s culture, emphasizing empathy, solidarity, and craftsmanship.

Threads of Communication Concept

A central theme of “threads of communication” runs through the office’s design, manifested in linear geometries like angular light fixtures and colored networking cables that traverse the space. These elements pay homage to the yarn lines used in the building’s past and symbolize Slack’s communication services.

Collaborative Design Elements

Collaboration with Kathryn Walter of Felt Studio brought about innovative additions, such as industrial felt strips wrapping the reception area’s walls and ceiling. This creates a welcoming atmosphere that aligns with Slack’s ethos of creativity and warmth.

Vibrant Zones and Color Identity

Distinct areas within the office, including workstations, meeting rooms, lounges, and the executive boardroom, are demarcated by bold pops of color inspired by Slack’s branding. This cohesive yet diverse color scheme adds visual interest and reinforces the company’s identity throughout the space.

Functional and Aesthetic Balance
